Acolyte means one who follows (follows the priest, and in this case, assists). When serving at the altar, acolytes assist the celebrant in the worship of God. Acolytes serve also as torchbearers and crucifers as the altar party processes. Becoming an Acolyte gives the youth of our parish an opportunity to lend their time and talents at an age appropriate fulfillment of their stewardship to God. Candidates must be willing, sincere, prompt, regular in attendance, alert to instruction, cooperative, and at least eight years old. Acolyte training sessions are provided, however the best training comes from their peers while actively serving at the altar.
