Our Acolytes – servers at the altar
Server means one who assists. When serving at the altar, one is doing just this:actively assisting the celebrant in the worship of God. *Becoming an Acolyte gives the youth of our parish an opportunity to lend their time and talents to the parish at an age appropriate fulfillment of their stewardship to God.Candidates must be willing, sincere, prompt, regular in attendance, alert to instruction, and co-operative. They also must be at least eight years old. Acolyte training sessions are provided, however the best training comes from their peers while actively serving at the altar.Torchbearers are usually scheduled one to two Sundays a month while Crucifers may be scheduled two to three Sundays a month. Acolytes at our parish wear a white alb with a cincture the color of the church season or special Holy day.At their commissioning an Acolyte is presented with a wooden cross on a black cord. Each Acolyte is recognized annually on their anniversary date. They progress through four different colors of cords to which a silver cross is attached. After completion of their fifth year they are presented with a special cross of their own. In all things, the server must be aware that the purpose in assisting at the alter is “that God may be glorified.” * “O God, our gracious Father:Bless the servers of your Church that they may so serve before your earthly altar in reverence and holiness, that they may attain, with all your saints and angels, the joy of serving you and worshiping you before your Heavenly Altar; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”* |

The extension of Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism.
The Daughters of the King is an order for women in the Episcopal church. The Saint Andrew's Chapter was created in 2001. Daughters take a vow to live a life of service, prayer and evangelism. The Daughters Chapter at St Andrew's support the parish through prayer (prayer chains, prayer in the side chapel during 10am Sunday services) and sponsoring events such as a quiet day and a brass rubbing field trip. Please contact Amy Sisson, chapter president, through the church office with any questions. Daughters of the King National Website: http://www.dok-national.org/ |
Hospitality Ministry | |
Hospitality is a vital ministry. It provides a forum for fellowship, welcomes visitors, and projects a warm and friendly feeling after the Holy Eucharist. It is also an opportunity to share time with each other. We gather after the 10:00 a.m. service and, we socialize and enjoy the delicious specialties shared by our host. I sincerely thank the parishioners who host our hospitality gathering. I would like to extend an invitation to our new members and other parishioners who have not yet participated in this ministry to consider hosting a Sunday hospitality gathering. Thanks, |
Lay Readers | |
Weekly Readings You can easily find out what lessons will be read at a Sunday service by looking at the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). Go to the Lectionary section which is towards the end of the BCP. We are currently in Year A. You can also go to this website Lectionary to read lessons for past or future services. Use the BCP link on a calendar day to read the lessons used at Saint Andrew's. Lay Readers are responsible for reading the weekly lessons at church services. Lay Eucharistic Ministers are members of the church who have received additional training and are eligible to give blessed wine during services. They are also eligible to deliver blessed bread and wine to people who are unable to attend church services. If you are interested in becoming a lay reader or a Lay Eucharistic Minister, please conact Deacon Jane Denton, through the church office.
